Lea Salonga earns a Grammy nomination for ‘Once On This Island’

Acclaimed theater actor and singer Lea Salonga is officially a Grammy nominee. 

Lea on Friday shared the surreal moment with her fans on Instagram. In a post, she said that she had to verify the news herself. 

"Had to actually go to Grammy.com to see if it was true. And it's true! I am officially a Grammy nominee!!!" she declared

Originally staged in 1990, "Once on this Island" follows the story of the star-crossed pair as they try to overcome the class divisions among other things that stand in the way of their love.

Lea plays the role of Erzulie, Goddess of Love in the musical. She gives the lead characters Ti Moune and Daniel Beauxhomme the gift of human heart.  — AT, GMA News
