‘Trese’ creator thrilled Pinoy graphic novel’s anime version is coming to Netflix

'Trese' creator and writer Budjette Tan and artist Kajo Baldisimo couldn't be more excited as their horror/crime graphic novel is finally having an anime version, with Netflix as its producer.

"We are extremely excited that TRESE will finally be adapted and that it will be an animated series on Netflix! To be able to share our stories and love of Philippine myth and folklore to the world is a dream come true!" Budjette said in a statement.

The Filipino writer then recalled how he and Kajo were both inspired by an anime series when they created Trese.

"It’s funny how when me and Kajo started work on TRESE, we didn’t know that we were both [watching] the same sci-fi anime series which somehow influenced us in the way we wrote and drew TRESE. It was only later on when we were comparing notes when we found out that we were inspired by stuff we saw from an anime series."

Tan as well applauded the would-be director and producers of the anime series.

"We are even more thrilled that Jay Oliva is going to be our director. We love the work that he’s done in animated movies as well as in the live action movies!! Of course, this was all made possible by Tanya Yuson and Shanty Harmayn of BASE Entertainment who saw the potential in TRESE so many years ago."

Netflix made the announcement of its production of Trese in Singapore on Thursday through Taito Okiura, Director International Originals-Anime.
