One of the world’s smallest books is the biggest attraction of this book museum
Marikina may be the shoe capital of the Philippines, but the progressive city in the eastern border of Metro Manila also hosts a book museum that contains one of the world’s smallest books.
The Book Museum – yes that is what it’s called – has a collection of more than 7,000 books sourced from all over the world, including Argentina, Honduras, Japan, Christmas Island, Guam.
Of course old books from the Philippines are also on view, like the Doctrina Christriana – the oldest book printed in the Philippines, dating back to 1894 – and a few titles on National Hero Jose Rizal.
But the Book Museum’s biggest attraction is actually considered one of the world’s smallest books. Hailing from Germany, “The Lord's Prayer” measures 3.3 x 3.3 millimeter and contains well, the Lord’s Prayer in seven different languages.
It also has a small version of "The Little Prince", and a miniature collection of Shakespeare’s works, as well as a thumb-sized prayer book.
The Book Museum also boasts of an Ethnology Center, which has artifacts from all over the Philippines. Opened in 2013, the Book Museum just opened another corner in its Ethnology Center, featuring various rocks from Higantes Island.
According to museum guide Regina Rances, there are more than 7,000 books from 230 countries that the owner Atty Dominador Buhain has visited in his life. — LA, GMA News
