A book on martial law during the time of former President Ferdinand Marcos was chosen as one of the best books published in 2016, the National Book Development Board (NBDB) announced on Friday.

"Marcos Martial Law Never Again," by Raissa Robles was recognized in the non-fiction prose in English in the 26th National Book Awards, which was organized by NBDB and the Manila Critics Circle.

"I am happy that the judges recognized the contents of the book," Robles told GMA News Onlime.

"My husband and I, together with our publisher, book designer and printer, see this as a legacy of memory both for those who didn't experience it and those who did and are horrified at how the real, brutal history of the Marcos dictatorship is being systematically scrubbed by the Marcoses and their trolls from the nation's memory. We hope, in reading the book, people will learn to value their freedom and be alert to any dangers presented to it by other would-be dictators," she added. — BAP, GMA News
