‘War Herstories’ on preview at the Teatrillo at Casa Manila in Intramuros
Banking and finance graduate Martie Datu and Bacolod-based artist Alan Ong collaborate to reanimate through painting the stories of the two-time Palanca- winning writer Patricia Sy through an exhibit entitled, “War Herstories.”
The exhibit is being previewed at the Teatrillo at Casa Manila on General Luna street in Intramuros until August 7, Monday, and will reopen again at HistoryCon Philippines 2017 from August 10-13 at the World Trade Center in Pasay.
"War Herstories" is based on Sy's books "Amaya" and "One Hundred Feathers," both about young girls whose destinies are marked and scarred by the demons of World War II.
They chronicle the personal stories of these two girls as they journey from acceptance to forgiveness, to friendship and, finally, to peace.
Datu paints the town in "One Hundred Feathers" with her brand of faceless portraits in delicate and despondent shades of pastel, while Ong illustrates views on social issues to remind viewers of the inner child within.
In painting the story "Amaya," he draws inspiration from his home province, Negros Occidental, to ground his silhouette and strokes to reality and experience. — LA, GMA News
