‘Wonder Woman’ delivers action, humor, and a shining heroine

It’s been a tough road for DC films when it comes to delivering a memorable superhero movie that escapes a roasting by the critics.

2016’s “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” won the box office, but did not win over reviewers. Neither did the all-star villain line-up flick “Suicide Squad” released that same year.

Fortunately, that all changes with “Wonder Woman,” a film that is blessed with a gorgeous star who embodies the Amazon Warrior Princess who has entertained fans for over 75 years.

Those who enjoyed Gal Gadot’s stunning debut as Diana of Themyscira in “Batman v Superman” will be pleased to know that she literally shines in “Wonder Woman.”

Helmed by Patty Jenkins (“Monster”), an absolute fan of the character herself,  “Wonder Woman” graces viewers with Diana's origins on the isolated island of Themyscira, which is populated by a race of female warriors ruled by Queen Hippolyta.

Diana grows up to become a warrior as well, one whose destiny is realized when she meets and saves an military officer named Steve Trevor. Learning of the Great War in man’s world, Diana willingly makes the journey to fight against evil and end the war—giving the world its most beautiful hero whom it certainly does not deserve.

Full of action, humor, and the kind of sensational awe that should be felt in a superhero movie, "Wonder Woman" is exactly the kind of film Warner Bros. needs to shake up its DC Extended Universe. It’s a love letter to fans of Diana Prince, and the cast—led by Gal Gadot and Chris Pine—is excellent.

Women and girls around the world can be proud that one of the world’s most recognizable heroines finally gets her time in the spotlight. With its bravado and the beauty of its cinematography and direction, “Wonder Woman” lives up to its name: it is truly wonderful and should be seen in the best picture format that audiences can reach.
