Tom Cruise, stunts, and Russell Crowe in ‘The Mummy’ sneak peek

One of Hollywood's most recognizable actors is joining the movie that will plant the seeds for Universal Pictures’ new “Universal Monsters” shared universe.

A brand-new sneak peek for “The Mummy” reboot shows Tom Cruise’s character Nick Morton battling it out with Academy Award winner Russell Crowe, who plays Dr. Henry Jekyll.

If the name of Crowe’s character sounds familiar, it should, as Dr. Henry Jekyll is the man who wants to continue doing bad things without consequences and so gives birth to his split persona Edward Hyde in Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic novel “The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.”

Directed by Alex Kurtzman, “The Mummy” is the newest reboot in a long line of films. The most recent film of the same name was released in 1999 and starred Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz and Arnold Vosloo. It was a huge hit and spawned two sequels. The 2017 film is the second reboot following the 1932 original, with Cruise attached as its lead along with co-stars Crowe, Jake Johnson, Annabelle Wallis, and Sofia Boutella playing the titular monster—who this time is a resurrected Egyptian princess.

"The Mummy" will be released in the Philippines on June 7. — BM, GMA News
