‘Wheel of Time’ TV series in the works at Sony
With “Game of Thrones” nearing conclusion, fantasy fans are understandably worried that they’ll soon be without a fix for their blood, dragons, and random-naked-people needs.
Well, worry no longer, nerds! As Sony Pictures Television is already developing a TV series based on “The Wheel of Time,” a ridiculously overlong book series consisting of 14 thick-ass volumes of good old-fashioned swords and sorcery. This series took so long to write (over 22 years!) that it even outlived its creator and original author, Robert Jordan. And you all thought George R. R. Martin took his time!
The first book in “The Wheel of Time” series, entitled “The Eye of the World,” was published in 1990. As thick as the Bible, it follows the exploits of a certain Rand al’Thor, who is accompanied by his friends in his quest to find the Dragon Reborn. When Jordan died in 2007, it fell to writer Brandon Sanderson to complete the series. The last book, “A Memory of Light,” was published in 2013.

“The Wheel of Time” books have been best-sellers for years. Their popularity has paved the way for a critically acclaimed 1999 video game of the same name, as well as a tabletop role-playing game. There have also been numerous failed attempts to adapt the series for television and the big screen since the onset of the new millennium. It seems those efforts have finally paid off.
The TV show will be produced by Sony alongside Radar Pictures and Red Eagle Entertainment. Serving as executive producer and writer is Rafe Judkins, who has previously worked on Netflix’s “Hemlock Grove,” ABC’s “Agents of SHIELD,” and NBC’s “Chuck.”
Jordan’s widow Harriet McDougalwill serve as consulting producer. In a post on the series’ Google+ page, she stated: “Legal issues have been resolved. The Wheel of Time will become a cutting edge TV series! I couldn’t be more pleased.” — BM, GMA News
