Disney’s ‘Tangled’ returns in TV movie sequel and series
Disney’s “Tangled,” released way back in 2010, is getting a sequel and a series, and they’re going to appear on the Disney Channel.
The TV movie “Tangled: Before Ever After” will see the return of several main characters, including the thrill-seeking princess, Rapunzel; the smoldering thief, Flynn a.k.a. Eugene; the crafty chameleon, Pascal; and the proud and mighty horse, Maximus.
Perhaps most surprisingly, we’ll also see Rapunzel’s long, magical hair growing back.
“Tangled: Before Ever After” takes place after the events of “Tangled,” but before the special occasion that is the subject of the 2012 short film “Tangled: Ever After.” The appearance of Rapunzel’s hair in said short film could provide clues as to how “Tangled: Before Ever After” ends.
In the TV film, Mandy Moore reprises her role as Rapunzel, as does Zachary Levi, who plays Flynn. Joining the cast are Ashley Judd as Rapunzel's mother Queen Arianna and Broadway actress Eden Espinosa as Rapunzel’s handmaiden and close friend Cassandra.
The original movie’s composer, Alan Menken, as well as lyricist, Glenn Slater, are lending their talents once more to the sequel, providing new songs every eight-year-old will be, for better or worse, singing along to for years to come.
“Tangled: Before Ever After” will air this March on the Disney Channel. It will serve as the prelude to an animated TV series called “Tangled: The Series.” The announcement of the TV movie and series should be welcome news to fans, as it could hint at the possible future of other Disney animated films such as “Frozen,” “Wreck-it Ralph,” and “Moana.” In fact, another Disney favorite, “Big Hero 6,” is also getting the TV treatment in the form of “Big Hero 6: The Series.” — BM, GMA News
