Creepy clowns, Emma Watson, and more at German Film Week 2016
If you'll take any excuse to see Emma Watson onscreen, then German Film Week is for you. Of course, the film festival is open to all cinephiles.
Presented by Goethe Institut in partnership with Ayala Cinemas, the German Film Week runs from September 22 to 27, with 13 movies on offer.
Leading the list is "Who Am I - Kein System ist sicher" ("Who Am I - No System is Safe), the opening movie for the festival, first released in Germany in 2014.
In the vein of the hit TV series "Mr. Robot", "Who Am I" follows the story of Benjamin and the hacker group he gets involved in, CLAY (Clowns Coming at You). The movie ranked first at the local box office in Germany—the first in its genre to do so since the '80s.
In the lineup is also the Emma Watson starrer "Colonia" (The Colony), a historical drama released in 2015 based on "the true story of a notorious Chilean sect, founded by German emigrants.”
Watson plays the role of Lena, who joins the cult Colonia Dignidad to rescue her boyfriend.
The entry to 66th Berlin Film Festival "24 Weeks" will also been screened. The film stars Julia Jentsch as Astrid and Bjarne Mädel as Markus, a couple who must make a tough decision after finding out that the child that they are about to have might not be born healthy.
The follow critically acclaimed films complete the list of movies to be screened: "As We Were Dreaming" (2015); "The Dark Side of the Moon" (2015); "Head Full of Honey" (2014); "Hordur: Between The Worlds" (2015); "I'm Off Then" (2015); "Labyrinth of Lies" (2014); Stations of the Cross" (2014); "Meteor Street" (2016); "Rough Road Ahead" (2014); and "Wild" (2015).
