Art alert: What’s on exhibit in July
"Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life," Picasso may or may not have said, but the quote is still true, whatever its provenance.
The work of gifted artists are on display this month in various venues. Check some of them out below:
"After" by Aleah Angeles
Aleah Angeles, a young artist whose work art critic Cid Reyes describes as "marvelously mysterious and haunting," currently has some of her work on display at Pinto Art Museum in Rizal.
"It is easy to be swept away by her visions, for such is the allure of her immaculate technique of handling the brush and caressing the skin of canvas," writes Reyes.
See Aleah Angeles' work for yourself at the Pinto Art Museum, San Roque, Antipolo, Rizal until July 9.
"Perlas Ng Silanganan" by Clifford Espinosa
Woodworker and environmental designer Clifford Espinosa takes scrap wood from demolished homes to create one-of-a-kind pieces of art.
"Ang basura ay imbento lang ng tao," he said. "Walang basura sa kalikasan. Everything is a form of energy. Walang sayang. Walang tapon."
"Perlas ng Silanganan," his new exhibit at the Globe Art Gallery in Bonifacio Global City, features several pieces created by the master craftsman from Leyte.
"Perlas ng Silanganan" is on display at the Lower Level Gallery of the Globe Tower on 7th Avenue and 32nd Street, BGC, Taguig City, from July 11 to 22, 2016. The gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
"Four Songs from Oz"
An exhibit at the Yuchengco Museum in Makati will celebrate 70 years of bilateral relations between the Philippines and Australia by featuring the work of four Australia-based Filipino artists.
"Four Songs From Oz" features the work of award-winning artists Ramon Coloma, Alberto Estanislao, Alfredo Roces and Francisco Rovero. The exhibit is organized by the International Artists League, an association founded by Coloma.
"Enhancing bilateral relations is not the exclusive domain of diplomats and politicians, and I acknowledge the very important role that members of the Filipino-Australian community have played in building the ties that bring us together," said Australia's Ambassador to Manila Amanda Gorely in a statement.
"I congratulate the International Artists League for its efforts to nurture the relationship, and for being cultural ambassadors for our two countries."
