‘Temptation Island’ sculptures to be unveiled in arts and music festival in Paoay, Ilocos Norte

Paoay, Ilocos Norte is already home to iconic characters popularized by the movies "Ang Panday" and "Himala" and on May 14 (Saturday), the cast of "Temptation Island" will be immortalized alongside Flavio and Elsa at the Himala sa Buhangin! Arts and Music Festival.

"This year, we are installing the Temptation Island commemorative sculpture. This is inspired by the original version (directed by Joey Gosiengfiao) and the (2011) version of the film by Chris Martinez,” said Ilocos Norte Tourism Office (INTO) Head Ianree Raquel.

"Temptation Island" was years ahead of Tom Hanks' famous "Cast Away", following the story of beauty queens who get stranded on a desert island after their ship bursts into flames.

The film originally starred Dina Bonnevie, Azenith Briones, Jennifer Cortez, and Bambi Arambulo, while the 2011 remake featured Marian Rivera, Rufa Mae Quinto, Heart Evangelista, Lovi Poe, and Solenn Heusaff.

The sculpture to be unveiled at the Paoay Sand Dunes, designed by Mitoy Sta. Ana and Ohm David, is inspired by the scene where the beauty queens are licking a giant ice cream cone.

“(I am) equally honored and pressured. It is a big task resting on my shoulders immortalizing these royalties. It is not often one gets the chance to do so, let alone the whole cast of a film classic,” Sta. Ana said.

Himala sa Buhangin! Art and Music Festival will be held at Paoay Sand Dunes and aside from the unveiling of the sculptures, installation art by renowned visual artist Leeroy New will also be on display. Headlining the free concert are Parokya ni Edgar and Gloc-9. — AT, GMA News
