Ghost walk takes paranormal fans around Intramuros’ ‘haunted’ sites

Given its rich history, it's not a surprise that Intramuros would attract ghosts—and ghost hunters.

On Saturday night, dozens of paranormal fans walked the streets of the Walled City in search of kapres, white ladies, demonic spirits, and other entities during a ghost tour conducted by a group of paranormal investigators.

Organizer Jade Martin said the reception was overwhelming.

"Around 10,000 people asked to join," she said. "I didn't expect it to be viral."

Martin, who has been a fan of the paranormal since she was 9 years old, originally planned to go on the ghost walk with just her friends and a handful of other investigators as a late Christmas gift. It's not the first ghost walk that her group, Profilers of the Unknown, has conducted—they had previously held ghost walks previously arranged ghost walks in Baguio, Bulacan, and the University of the Philippines—but it was the first that caught the attention of the public.

When news of the event quickly spread on Facebook, Martin decided to make a series of tours to accommodate everyone interested.

The tour brought the crowd—composed of students, groups of friends, and hardcore paranormal fans—to the sites in Intramuros that, Martin said, have "high levels of demonic presence."

The locations are based on reports of ghostly entities received by Profilers of the Unknown, as well the group's own investigations.

But Martin clarified that they were not in fact searching for ghosts, but were actually conducting a educational tour that aimed to improve knowledge about the paranormal, as well as the history of the Intramuros.

"It's a tour with a twist," she said. "And it was an unexpected success."

The Intramuros ghost walk will be held until March. — BM, GMA News
