Make your own Rizal Monument

There's a Rizal statue in Spain, the US, China...and without having to spend too much, there can be one in your home too. All you need is a printer, paper, and a little love for the National Hero.

The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) shared a print-and-fold version of the Rizal Monument on Tuesday (December 29), a day ahead of the commemoration of Rizal's death anniversary.

The replica is made of four parts: the obelisk; a small base for Rizal and the other figures around the obelisk; a bigger base; and the plate on which the structure stands. The printout comes with straightforward labels on where to fold to help people construct their mini-monument.

The iconic statue was first unveiled on December 30, 1913—Rizal's 17th death anniversary—and was designed by Richard Kissling, who named the structure "Motto Stella," or guiding star. It is currently the center of a battle between heritage conservationists and developer DMCI Holdings, with the former protesting the latter's Torre de Manila development, which is going up in the skyline behind the monument. — Aya Tantiangco/BM, GMA News
