apl.de.ap shares life story in children’s book ‘What’s Ap?’
Filipino-American musician apl.de.ap (real name Allan Pineda Lindo) has inspired young hopefuls to pursue their dreams through his songs and international success. But he is not stopping there. On Tuesday, the Black Eyed Peas rapper launched a children's book about his humble beginnings.
"What's Ap? The Life Story of apl.de.ap" traces Lindo's journey from Angeles, Pampanga to Los Angeles, California, where he found success as a performer and record producer. The book, written by Yvette Fernandez and illustrated by Ray Sunga, is part of Summit Books' Dream Big book series.
During the press launch in Makati City, apl.de.ap said he hopes the book will also push the young ones to pursue their dreams but also to work hard to reach them.
"A lot of kids are like me growing up in the Philippines. I don't want them to give up on their dream. They just have to try hard," he said.
He added that when he saw the book, it was a "'pinching myself' moment."
"It's kinda like a full circle. Oh, I've done that much," the singer said. However, he added, "I'm not done yet. I have a lot more things to do."
All proceeds will be given to the apl.de.ap Foundation, which helps build classrooms, send children to school, and provide medical help to children with eye problems.
When he was young, apl.de.ap was diagnosed with nystagmus, or the involuntary, rapid, and repetitive movement of the eye or eyes.
"[apl.de.ap is] a kid that was given an opportunity and had humble beginnings. And he cherishes every other opportunity that he has. Now he has to give back because he was given the chance to life," he said.
"What's Ap" is now available in newsstands, bookstores, convenience stores, and supermarkets nationwide for P125. — BM, GMA News
