‘Liwanag’: CCP shines spotlight on Aze Ong’s crochet art
For its last Visual Arts and Museum Division venue grant exhibition for the year, the Cultural Center of the Philippines has selected Aze Ong’s solo show, "Liwanag."
Ong has repurposed some of her past crochet art pieces into hanging creations that look like cocoons before their inhabitants metamorphose into butterflies. "I experience a similar transformation and go through a ‘change of form’ if you will…as if inside a cocoon, in darkness and at rest…something akin to a blank stage…‘trancelike’ as flashes of brightness starts manifesting…awakening from the self, to change and bathe in light and colors through my wings," the artist said of her process.
"Liwanag" will open on December 10 at the CCP's Bulwagang Carlos V. Francisco (Little Theater Lobby). The event will include performances by the Sipat Lawin Ensemble and by Ong herself. — BM, GMA News
