Elwood Perez film ‘Esoterika: Maynila’ to have limited run this month


The Elwood Perez film “Esoterika: Maynila” will have a limited commercial run this month to allow audiences to catch it in the cinemas again, the Film Development Council of the Philippines said in a statement Tuesday.

The film will be showing from September 23 to 29 at the Shang Cineplex in Shangri-La Plaza Mall in Mandaluyong.


Produced by the FDCP in cooperation with T-Rex Productions, "Esoterika: Maynila" stars Ronnie LIang as Mario/Galogo, a young graphic novelist on "a voyage of self-discovery" on which he runs into a number of interesting characters, played by actors and non-actors in a series of supporting roles and cameos.

The cast includes Boots Anson-Roa, Carlos Celdran, Vince Tañada, Cecile Guidote-Alvarez, Snooky Serna, Lance Raymundo, Wig Tysmans, Jessica Zafra (who co-wrote the screenplay) and Tessa Prieto-Valdez.


"Esoterika: Maynila" received the Film Critics’ Choice Award at this year’s Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences Awards (FAMAS).

It was screened at the Hong Kong International Film Festival inMarch and at the Cinemalaya film festival last month. In October, it will be screened in San Francisco, California along with Perez' other recent work, "Otso" as part of the Filipino Arts & Cinema International's tribute to the director. Perez will also receive the event's Gintong Ani award. — BM, GMA News

Tickets for the special run of "Esoterika:Maynila" at the Shang Cineplex will be sold at regular cinema rates.
