LOOK: PHLPost releasing special stamps for Pacquiao's fight against Mayweather
In time for Filipino boxing champ Manny Pacquiao's bout against Floyd Mayweather, the Philippine Postal Corp. will roll out special "Fight of the Century" postage stamps.
PHLPost said the “special postage stamps” are in support of Pacquiao, who faces Mayweather in Las Vegas on May 2.
The stamps will be released at P10 each, with PHLPost planning to issue 500,000 copies
Each stamp features a photo of Pacquiao, who it said is "highly regarded as one of the world’s greatest athletes."
Meanwhile, 30,000 copies of the souvenir sheet will also be released at P40 each.
PHLPost said the stamps were approved by the Philippine Stamp Committee composed of representatives from the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), the Philippine Philatelic Federation (PPF), and the National Historical Commission of the Philippines.
The photo was given by Pacquiao's office, with PHLPost artist Rodine Teodoro doing the layout of the Pacquiao regular stamps, souvenir sheets and official first day cover.
PHLPost said this will be the second time Pacquiao was featured in postage stamps.
The first was in 2008, when he became the first living Filipino athlete to be immortalized in stamps.
At the time, PHLPost issued the stamps for his “Lethal Combination” bout with David Diaz on June 28, 2008.
"The stamps were a hit here and abroad," PHLPost said. -- Joel Locsin/JST, GMA News
