Exhibit, series of talks to be held for Battle of Manila’s 70th anniversary

The Battle of Manila, waged from February 3 to March 3, 1945, devastated the city and killed thousands of soldiers and Filipino civilians, but it also liberated Manila and eventually led to the end of Japanese occupation of the Philippines.

Seventy years later, the Filipinas Heritage Library is commemorating this momentous period in Philippine history with "Manila, My City at War!", an exhibit and series of talks to be held from February 3 to March 3, 2015 at the Ayala Museum.

The talks will be held on the four Saturdays of February, beginning at 2:00 p.m.

According to a press release from the museum, the talks will cover the following topics:

“Strategies of War” - the military aspects of the Battle for Manila;

“Rising from the Ruins” - the challenges of conserving war-damaged built heritage;

“Memories of Love” - the lives of Manila's inhabitants;

“Memories of War” - stories of survival; and

“Life Goes On” and “The War on Air” - everyday life during the Japanese occupation.

The exhibit and conference will feature photos, artworks, maps, artifacts, and film showings.

According to the library, teachers, librarians, students, senior citizens, and FHL-Ayala Museum members are entitled to a discounted rate of P500 for attending all the scheduled talks, while the regular discounted rate is P1,000.

The daily admission fee P300, but teachers, librarians, students, senior citizens, and members can get in for P150.  — BM, GMA News
