IN PHOTOS: A quiet remembrance of the victims of the Maguindanao Massacre

The National Union of Journalists of the Philippines on Sunday commemorated the fifth anniversary of the Maguindanao Massacre with an art installation by Leeroy New at Bantayog ng mga Bayani in Quezon City. Of the 58 people who were murdered in the incident, 32 were media workers—the single deadliest attack against journalists worldwide.

The art installation, which was only available for a day at Bantayog ng mga Bayani in Quezon City, is composed of figures made from newspaper to represent those murdered on November 23, 2009.

The art installation moved widow Editha Tiamzon to tears saying that it brought back the memories of the fateful event.

"Bumalik sa akin 'yung mga alaala na nakita namin," said Tiamzon, widow of the one the victims, Daniel Tiamzon of television network UNTV.

The 54-year-old widow saw a video of the massacre's aftermath showing how the bodies were recovered from a dump.

"Kasi 'yung asawa ko… hinulog muna siya bago hinulog yung 'van ng UNTV. Siguro nakita niyo yung parang piping softdrinks 'yung van nila. Mas lalo pa 'yung sa ilalim noon at alam kong buhay siya noong hinulog 'yung van," she said.

"Mahirap talagang makalimutan mo 'yun. Sabihin mo man na, nakamove on ka pero hindi totally," she added.

Mrs. Tiamzon said that her three children now aged 20, 19, and 14 have yet to fully recover from the incident.

With their breadwinner gone, Editha now sells breakfast meals at their home in General Trias, Cavite.

She said that some relatives are also helping her out with their finances. She also thanked NUJP and UNTV for giving her family financial support.
