Snake crawls up car's windshield in Cagayan de Oro

Passengers inside a private car headed to Cagayan de Oro City were frightened and couldn't help but panic when a snake started crawling up the vehicle's windshield while they were on the road.

In Kuya Kim's report on "24 Oras," Tuesday, Dr. Arvin Diesmos, a herpetologist, identified the snake as a Philippine paradise tree snake.

"Itong ahas na ito ay wala siyang kamandag, harmless sa ating mga tao," he said.

According to Mark Joseph Sara said, who uploaded a video of the snake on social media, the animal had acrobatic-like moves.

"Natatakot po kami kasi puwede po siyang pumasok doon sa may aircon," he said.

One of the unique abilities of Philippine paradise tree snakes is that they can glide, making them look as if they were flying from one tree to another.

"Kaya nilang i-bend 'yung kanilang ribs. Pinaluwag nila 'yun ay lalaki 'yung tinatawag na surface area ng kanilang katawan. Para siyang nagpa-parachute," Dr. Arvin said.

The expert said that such snakes are docile or easy to handle.

"Siyempre magugulat kayo 'no? Pero 'wag na kayo mag-panic. In fact, sila rin ay nagpa-panic. I-check n'yo kung meron kayong safe area na mapaghihintuan sa highway, pilitin n'yo makaalis na 'yung ahas. 'Wag na nating saktan, kawawa naman," he said.

Mark Joseph and his friends did the same.

"Doon po muna kami sa National Highway. Hinintay po talaga namin na yung ahas ay makababa po talaga sa sasakyan," he said.
