Why are duck hair clips trending? UP prof explains

Duck hair clips are 2024's latest trend, with many people of all ages wearing those cute yellow ducks in their heads.

According to UP College of Arts and Letters Dean Professor Jim Naval, a pop culture and literature professor at the University of the Philippines Diliman, the fad started around November or December of last year in Baguio City.

"Pag wala ka nito parang di ka kasali, parang something like that eh, typical 'yun sa Pinoy. Gusto natin in tayo kasama tayo saka kung ano 'yung uso 'yun and binanggit ko sa iba 'yung bandwagon effect," he said in Katrina Son's report on "24 Oras Weekend," Sunday.

"Pag hindi ka sumakay KJ ka-corny ka parang ganun. Gaya-gaya puto maya syndrome," Naval added.

As duck hair clips are becoming a thing, youngsters, especially kids, are quick to follow the trend.

No worries if you want to flex your "bibe" in school, as the Department of Education has allowed students and even teachers to wear these trendy ducks in class.

According to DepEd Deputy Spokesman Francis Bringas, he sees no problem if teachers and students want to follow the fashion or trend.
