Young photographer gives veteran lensman in Luneta Park a new camera

A young freelance photographer’s encounter with one of the oldest traditional photographers in Rizal Park, Luneta in Ermita, Manila went viral online for their heartwarming interaction.

In Kuya Kim’s report on “24 Oras,” Tuesday, Kelvin Aliliran said that he hasn’t experienced having his photo taken by a traditional photographer while visiting the tourist spot.

So he thought, “What if mag-approach ako ng isang traditional photographer?”

Kelvin met Toto Palabrica, who has been working as a traditional photographer in Luneta for over four decades.

He offers printed copies for only P50 each and admitted that lately, fewer people have been availing of his services.

“Humina na, ‘di tulad ng dati. Dahil sa cellphone,” he said.

“Maganda po ‘yung noon kasi kahit ‘di na kami mag-ikot sa Luneta, lumalapit na lang po ‘yung magpapakuha sa amin,” his wife, Beverly Nagayo, said.

Inspired by the traditional photographers, Kelvin offered to take Tatay Toto’s photo, which made him happy.

“With your P50, you recognize their efforts and dedication, you motivate them to continue their passion,” Kelvin said.

Later on, he returned to Luneta to meet Tatay Toto and give him a new camera. The veteran lensman was very happy with the gift.

“Hopefully makasabay sila sa bagong teknolohiya,” said Kelvin. — Carby Basina/BAP, GMA Integrated News
