Thank you, Captain Holt: 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' stars pay tribute to Andre Braugher

It was a mournful Wednesday for all the friends, families, and fans of Andre Braugher after reports announced his death.

On social media, Braugher's co-stars on "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" have reacted to the passing of the actor, who breathed into life Captain Raymond Holt on the comedy from 2013 to 2021.

On X (formerly Twitter), the official page of "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" paid tribute to Braugher, posting his photo in character and saying he'll always be "our Captain."

"We love you, Andre," it added.

NBC Entertainment, the media company that rescued "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" after getting canceled on FOX, also wrote a few words about the actor on X.

"Andre Braugher was the actor that others in the profession would always aspire to be," NBC began.

"In addition to his prowess as a dramatic actor, his comedy chops were also on full display as the determined and passionate Capt. Holt in 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine,'" it added. "We will miss him tremendously."

Terry Crews, who played the role of Terry Jeffords in the show, expressed his grief over Braugher's death on Instagram.

"Can't believe you're gone so soon," Crews said.

"This hurts. You left us too soon. You taught me so much. I will be forever grateful for the experience of knowing you," he added.

Marc Evan Jackson, who portrayed Braugher's husband in "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" as Kevin, wrote a short but sweet tribute to the late actor, along with a photo of them together on the show's set.

"O Captain. My Captain," Jackson wrote.

Meanwhile, Joe Lo Truglio, who played Charles Boyle in the comedy series, sent his love for Braugher's family, specifically to his wife Ami Brabson, on Instagram.

"All my love goes to his wife Ami and his three boys, who he loved very much and flew back every weekend from the show to be with," Truglio wrote.

"He spoke often about his sons, and knew how lucky he was to have Ami," he added. "I'm grateful to them for allowing us to share eight years with him."

On the other hand, Chelsea Peretti, who played Gina Linetti in "Brooklyn Nine-Nine," penned a heartfelt tribute to Braugher on Instagram, along with his iconic photo from the show.

"Love you," Peretti wrote. "Forever lucky to have gone on such a journey with you."

"Is it weird that I am also grieving for what Captain Holt meant to Gina? I really hoped and knew I would see you again. Hate that I won't," she added with a broken heart emoji.

Dirk Blocker, who played the role of Michael Hitchcock in the show, has nothing but good words for the late actor. He described him as "fiercely intelligent, remarkably kind, supportive, generous, and possessed a deep and extraordinary talent."

"The [nine] years I was able to work with him and to just be in his presence was truly a blessing," he said.

"My heartfelt condolences go out to his family," he added.

Joel McKinnon Miller, who portrayed the role of Norm Scully in the series, sent his love to family and friends of Braugher on Instagram.

"Sending love to Andre's family and friends and all of us who had the honor of working with him," Miller wrote, followed by the hashtag #brooklyn99.

Braugher died on Monday due to a recent illness. He was 61.

"Brooklyn Nine-Nine" revolves around the hilarious shenanigans inside a police station in Brooklyn.

It first aired on FOX in 2013 before getting canceled after five seasons. After the cancelation garnered a strong reaction from fans online, the series was rescued by NBC, where it started airing in 2019.
