Kosang Marlon jams with Mayonnaise after his viral version of 'Jopay'

"Jopay," Mayonnaise's iconic 2005 song about Sexbomb Jopay, has become a hit anew after a sintunado version of it went viral on TikTok.

At first, netizens were tickled by how off-key the rendition was, but as it kept spreading online, some said they got a major LSS from listening to it.

The TikTok user behind it all is Kosang Marlon, 24, who said he spontaneously made up his own tune for the 2000s anthem.

"Sinadya ko lang din po lahat 'yun. Bigla na lang pong lumabas sa bunganga ko po 'yun. Kinabukasan, nag-million views po agad," he told "Kapuso Mo Jessica Soho."

("The melody just came out of my mouth. The day after, it already reached millions of views.")

His funny cover became so big that Marlon found himself getting recognized on the streets and getting invitations to perform in bars.

Even Monty Macalino, Mayonnaise's vocalist, got wind of the hilarious version of their song and absolutely loved the fact that it has been giving good vibes online.

It's a collaboration waiting to happen, and KMJS just made it a reality! The show brought Kosang Marlon and the OPM band together, to the delight of many online.

"Sorry po sa Mayonnaise kasi po nabago ko po 'yung tono. Pwedeng-pwede po kung makaka-jamming po sila. Tono ko nga lang po ang gagamitin ko," Marlon said when he was first told about it.

("Sorry Mayonnaise because I changed the tune. I'm also game for a jamming session. But I will have to sing my own tune.")

When he finally met the band, Monty thanked him for what he had done for the song 18 years after it was first released.

"Masaya ako na pinagtrip-an mo kasi binigyan mo ng buhay 'yung kanta namin," Monty said.

("I'm glad that you played with our song because you gave life to it.")

Marlon was also thankful for the opportunity to jam with Mayonnaise.

"Tuwang-tuwa po ako sa naranasan ko ngayon kasi po nakasama ko pa talaga sila sa stage. Talagang nagpapasalamat po talaga ko," he said.

("I'm very happy with what I experienced because I got to share the stage with Mayonnaise. I'm really thankful.")

Monty wrote "Jopay" in 2003. According to the vocalist, the idea started when he saw Jopay in the Lenten special of "Eat Bulaga."

"Sabi ko lang, 'Uy! Astig! Di ba sumasayaw lang 'to? Ba't umiiyak? Ba't umaarte?" he said. Naisip ko lang, sabi ko, 'Gawa ako ng kanta parang love song for a celebrity.'"

("I said, 'Wow! This is cool! Isn’t she a dancer? Why is she acting? So I thought, 'I'll make like a love song for a celebrity.")

After completing the song, he kept dropping by the Broadway Centrum for a chance to meet Jopay herself, but she was always either too busy or not around.

"Hanggang sa isang beses nanood kami na parang show talaga nila, concert nila. After meet and greet inabot ko 'yung demo. Di ba pag may crush ka gusto mong bigyan ng rosas. Gusto ko lang umabot sa kanya. That's it," Monty said.

("One time we eventually watched their show, their concert. After the meet and greet, I handed her the demo tape. When you have a crush, you want to give them roses right? I wanted to give it to her. That's it.")

"So pag-uwi ko, taxi-taxi pa ako nu'n dati. Pagod na pagod ako biglang tumugtog, 'Jopay.' Parang narinig ko na 'tong music na 'to! 'Jopay,' ako ba 'yan? Tapos naalala ko may nagbigay nga pala sa akin ng tape."

("I was on a taxi on my way home when 'Jopay' played. The music sounded so familiar. Then I remembered that someone gave me the demo tape of the song.")

Jopay shared that she still has the demo tape of the song until now. She also revealed that Mayonnaise planned to have her in the music video, but it did not happen because she was busy with Sexbomb at that time.

Nonetheless, Jopay, who is now married to Joshua Zamora and a mom of two, was grateful that she got to be a muse for the band.

"Sa Mayonnaise, congratulations dahil until now 'yung music na 'Jopay' na ginawa mo para sa akin, talagang kinagat ng masa."

("Congratulations, Mayonnaise! Because after all these years, your song 'Jopay' is still a hit among people.")
