7 of the biggest memes and trends that defined 2022

Since most of everyone is on the internet these days, what better way to summarize 2022 than through a rundown of viral memes and moments?

To anyone who's chronically online, you probably remember these:

1. It's Corn

There was no escaping this one.

A child called Tariq charmed everyone with his pure love for corn, which he waxed poetics about in an interview with Recess Therapy.

Naturally, it went viral, and even inspired a remix and several covers.

No matter what happens now, 'I hope you guys have a corntastic day' will forever be iconic.

2. Euphoria

If you haven't seen a single meme about HBO's hit series 'Euphoria,' where have you been?

Following the release of its second season, it took over the internet, and of course, moments from the show was turned into reaction photos and memes.

Arguably the most viral is Maddy's line: 'B-tch, you better be joking.'

Netizens had fun editing the quote to suit their needs and it was hilarious.

3. Adam Levine's DMs

Adam Levine went viral in a bad way when Instagram model Sumner Stroh came forward and alleged that she had an affair with him.

Take note, Levine is married to former Victoria's Secret angel Behati Prinsloo. He later denied the affair but admitted he 'crossed the line.'

But while he got his lashings online, that's not what the internet really fixated on.

Rather they focused on Levine's leaked DMs with Stroh, particularly the part where he told her: 'I may need to see the booty' and 'Holy f-cking f-ck. That body of yours is absurd.'

He's never living this down.

4. Usher's 'Watch this'

Is this the funniest reaction clip to come out of 2022?

Usher went on NPR's Tiny Desk to perform a mini-concert, and for one reason or another, him singing "Watch this" from his classic "Confessions Part II" was the part that caught people's attention.

Thank you for the performance and the meme, Usher!

5. They're a 10 but...

It seems like everyone caught on to this, from Twitter to TikTok.

The context is that people initially rank an unidentified someone by their looks — 'They're a 10' — followed by an aspect of their personality that may affect their overall appeal, such as 'They can't cook.'

'They're a 4 but he has a car,' for example. And people would adjust or not adjust based on their personal taste.

A lot of TikTok users did this, including local celebrities.

6. Running Up That Hill

At some point, "Running Up That Hill" was stuck on everyone's heads.

This is thanks to "Stranger Things 4," which used the old song by Katie Bush in a couple of its episodes.

Not only were people using it as an audio in every other TikTok video, it inspired song covers, too. The song was streamed so much that it shot up in several music charts and became one of the most streamed songs on Spotify, 37 years after its release!

7. Wednesday dance craze

This one is very recent.

Following the success of Tim Burton's "Wednesday," a lot of fans jumped up to kick off a dance trend based on Wednesday Addams' (Jenna Ortega) dance scene.

The trend used Lady Gaga's "Bloody Mary," causing it to rise on music charts 11 years after release.
