TikTok star Ychan Laurenz reminds voters to avoid fake news this #Eleksyon2022
With about a month to go before Eleksyon 2022, TikTok star Ychan Laurenz reminds fellow voters to avoid disinformation and fake news.
The content creator, whose real name is Christian Andrade, is known for his skits about relatable experiences featuring his three characters: Shiela, Cheska, and Lisa. As of writing, he has over 2.6 million followers and 75.5 million likes on TikTok.
On GMA Public Affairs’ “10 questions with Ychan Laurenz” for its #eLeksyonSerye series, he channeled one of his characters to emphasize the importance of being #DapatTotoo, or sticking to the facts especially when it comes to election candidates.
“Kailangan totoo para iwas tayo sa fake news saka para dapat tama yung iboboto natin sa eleksyon,” he said.
Ychan said leaders should embody integrity and honesty, and Filipino voters should look for these traits in a candidate.
“’Yung tapat, hindi sinungaling, walang bahid ng corruption. ’Yan yung hanapin niyo,” he said.
“Maging matalino, ’wag paniwalain sa fake news. ’Yung nababasa mo sa internet, hindi sila totoo lagi eh,” he added. “Maraming fake news kaya ingat tayo. Dapat laging facts ang hinahanap. Mag-research.”
More than anything else, Ychan reminded that the May 9 elections would determine the Filipinos’ future.
