Video of crying delivery rider who lost bike to a thief goes viral, netizens extend assistance
Netizens came to the rescue of a food delivery rider after watching a viral video of her crying unconsolably on a sidewalk after her bicycle was stolen, GMA News' Katrina Son reported on State of the Nation on Wednesday.
The video showed a female driver sitting on a sidewalk and wailing as she held on to a bag in which she keeps the food she was to deliver at the time.
She just found out that her bicycle was stolen. No matter how the people around her tried to comfort her, she was inconsolable.
Zania Rose Barboza works as a food delivery rider to provide for the needs of her family. She did not own a motorcycle, so she opted to use a bicycle.
She perseveres in her work despite concerns over her safety in dealing with trucks and cars along busy roads.
It was last July 8, however, that she almost lost her only source of income.
A thief stole her bicycle while it was parked outside a restaurant along Gil Puyat Avenue in Makati City.
Barboza immediately sought the assistance of officials from Barangay San Isidro in Makati, who saw the individual using her bicycle.
She did not know what to do at that time, so she just sat down and cried her heart out. This was the moment that someone noticed her and took a video, which went viral.
An owner of a bicycle shop saw the video, and posted on social media asking how to get in touch with the crying delivery rider, who he called "Ate Panda."
Matthew Rey Matias found Barboza and gave her a brand new bicycle.
Barboza was happy and relieved that she would be able to continue working as a food delivery rider.
"They still thought of helping other people despite the pandemic," she said in Tagalog. -- BAP, GMA News
