Viral 2007 video 'Charlie Bit My Finger' to be auctioned
The viral "Charlie Bit My Finger" video from 2007 will be auctioned as a non-fungible token (NFT).
In the video, two children are seen sitting on a sofa until suddenly the younger one named Charlie bit the finger of Harry, the elder brother. Thus the line, "Charlie bit my finger."
As of writing, the video has reached over 881 million views and two million likes.
According to the auction website, the boys are now 15 and 17 years old so their family decided to put the video up for sale as they enter a new chapter of their lives—adulthood.
"[This is] the perfect opportunity to embrace the next iteration of the internet," a statement from the website read.
"They are excited to welcome others to become a part of their story. This is not the end of the beloved video, but rather a new beginning."
The auction for ownership of the video will begin on May 22 and once it's done, the video will be deleted on YouTube forever.
Apart from owning the iconic video, the winner will also get the chance to create their own parody of the video featuring Harry and Charlie.
According to a BBC report, an NFT is like a "certificate" for something that is digital.
