Rabiya Mateo says she felt like a ‘Victoria’s Secret angel’ in Miss Universe national costume; netizens agree

Rabiya Mateo served up some patriotic realness at the Miss Universe 2020 national costume competition on Friday, where she showed off her “Halabira” walk in a massive winged ensemble inspired by the Philippine flag.

In a now viral clip backstage, the Filipina beauty queen said she felt like a “Victoria’s Secret angel” in her costume, and that she was gonna “fly” out on the stage.

It seems Rabiya wasn’t the only one who got the angel vibe from her national costume, because “Victoria’s Secret” was among the top trends on Philippine Twitter shortly after the live broadcast.

Several netizens reposted clips of the Filipino beauty queen drawing an air heart and blowing a kiss at the end of the runway, similar to what models do during Victoria’s Secret fashion shows.

The winner of the national costume competition will be announced during the 69th Miss Universe 2020 coronation night on May 17.

The Philippines’ entry was among the many impactful costumes to grace the stage.

Miss Myanmar Thuzar Wint Lwin, whose original national costume was “lost in the mail,” used her airtime to ask viewers all around the world to “pray for Myanmar.”

Miss Canada Nova Stevens wore a superhero outfit to symbolize racial equality, while Miss Israel Tehila Levi wore an “after COVID-19” themed dress made of face masks to represent “hope for a brighter future where masks are no longer necessary.”
