Will Smith praises beatboxing twins from Cebu

Two young beatboxing twins from Cebu received praise from Will Smith for their cover of Martin Garrix’s hit “Animals.”

On Instagram, Saturday, the Hollywood superstar shared a video of Joemar and Jake Canencia showcasing their talent.

“Before the internet people would just be good at something like this and nobody would know—Tragedy! Shoutout Joemar & Jake…this is spectacular!” he wrote in the caption.

As of writing, the post has garnered more than 7.6 million views and even received a comment from Garrix himself, who simply expressed his amazement with a laugh.

According to Aubrey Carampel’s “Pampa-Good Vibes” report on “24 Oras Weekend,” Sunday, the twins were shocked that they’ve been noticed by such a well-known actor.

“We’re so happy because Mr. Will Smith saw our video and was even amazed by our talent,” Joemar and Jake said in Filipino.

“We thought we can only reach Philippine audiences but our video has already gained attention from different parts of the world,” they added.

They discovered their talent in beatboxing back when they were still five years old. Now 16, they wish to become DJs someday and own a studio.

Aside from beatboxing, they also run a YouTube channel which now has nearly 7,000 subscribers. — Franchesca Viernes/BM, GMA News
