One-legged TikToker inspires fellow PWDs to regain their confidence
Joy Muñoz was a shy young woman who usually went straight home from school and hesitated when it came to trying something new.
Believe it or not, it was only after she lost a leg in 2016, when she found true confidence that later inspired many of her fellow PWDs.
According to GMA's "On Record," Joy got into a near-fatal road accident one hour before her 20th birthday.
Joy woke up at the hospital after a tricycle crashed into the one she and her friends were riding. She had to endure six operations, but her leg was beyond saving.
Joy did not go out for a year after that but, instead of sulking, she decided to enjoy her "second life" and learned how to do normal things with one leg.
"Wala naman pong dahilan para balikan po ang nakaraaan," Joy said, adding it's better to focus on the present as there's still so much she can do. "Hindi ko naman po hinahayaang malimit 'yung kakayahan ko dahil lang may kapansanan ako," she said. (I don'tlet my disability limit what I can and cannot do.)
Joy is now able to swim, hike, ride a bike and even use the jump rope in heels, but it was her dancing that captured the hearts of thousands of netizens on TikTok.
Joy also inspired several of her fellow PWDs to regain their confidence and keep doing what they love.
"Don't lose hope. Don't lose confidence. Don't let anything stop you from doing what makes you happy," she said joyfully. — Margaret Claire Layug/LA, GMA News
