Food is an essential item, therefore porridge or “lugaw” is essential too, according to a transport and food delivery company.
On Wednesday, Grab Philippines shared on social media a photo of the dish with the words: “If food is essential, and lugaw is food, therefore lugaw is essential.”
It added: “Let’s give thanks to all our Grab riders na tuloy lang sa paghatid ng ating essential needs! Saludo po kami sa inyo, kuyas and ates (We salute you, brothers and sisters)!”

The company even updated its advisory to include “lugaw” among essentials that could be delivered during the enhanced community quarantine, and offered free delivery by using the code “LUGAWISESSENTIAL.”
Grab issued the statement after a video of a rider who was barred from delivering lugaw in Bulacan went viral.
The video showed the rider discussing with a woman, who insisted that lugaw was not an essential item.
