Woman goes viral as she does dance workout while Myanmar coup is happening behind her
A Myanmar woman went viral online after she performed a dance workout while seemingly being unaware of the coup happening right behind her.
In the video uploaded on Facebook on Monday, the woman could be seen dancing to an upbeat song outside the parliament building, oblivious to the numerous black vehicles armed with weapons barreling through the guarded entrance.
Her video caught the exact moment the military swept in to seize the civilian seat of power just before the new parliament convened its first meeting.
According to a report by Coconuts Yangon, Khing Hnin Wai, a physical education teacher who worked for the Ministry of Education, said she was filming the video for a fitness dance competition.
“The background scene and the music kind of match. I was filming the clip for a competition before the morning’s news came out. What a memory!” She said.
The teacher said she later saw the helicopters and military convoys armed with heavy weapons. Some of the officers even gave her a smile, she said.
The video she uploaded went viral, with over 14,000 shares and 43,000 reactions as of writing.
Civilian leader Aung San Suu Kyi and her National League for Democracy (NLD) party won the elections in November 2020.
However, the Myanmar military claimed that the elections were marred with fraud and they declared a state of emergency.
On Monday, Aung San Suu Kyi and other NLD members were arrested and the military said that a new election would be held. – Kaela Malig/RC, GMA News
