Teacher's funny TikTok videos on distance learning go viral

A senior high school teacher in Misamis Oriental has gone viral after creating funny videos on distance learning.

According to Oscar Oida's report on "24 Oras," Teacher Monarica Atasan of Salay National High School is now a certified TikTok star after one of her skits hit seven million views.

She said she got the idea of making videos after a conversation with her co-teachers while printing modules in their school.

"What if daw ma-expose 'yung mga beauty ng mga teacher kasi nga po magdi-distribute na kami house to house ng mga module sa bahay po ng mga estudyante," Atasan said. "Baka raw may mga single na tito, single na kuya."

She developed the concept and ran it from there, staging hilarious situations which could arise from distance learning.

"[In-exaggerate] ko 'yung pag-portray ko kasi nga I'm trying to portray comedy to give good vibes lang po sa mga nanonood," she said.

From looking for Prince Charming to asking for malunggay and alugbati like a true Plantita, Atasan entertained many people amid the coronavirus pandemic.

However, she also admitted feeling nervous about the reactions of parents and her principal when her videos started go viral.

"Na-stress po ako for three days," she said. "Hindi kasi ako pang  celebrity kasi. 'Oh my God, bat ko 'to ginawa?'"

But in the end, she was able to handle bashers and her sudden fame pretty well.

"If you expose yourself to social media then you should accept that na may mga tao na may mga opinion na hindi sila natuwa, at meron ding mga taong natutuwa," she said.

Atasan also encouraged her fellow teachers to stay positive despite the challenges of adjusting to distance learning.

"We also look at the positive side of our life and look at the brighter side in order for us to radiate to other people especially po sa mga estudyante po natin," she said. —MGP, GMA News
