Ethel Booba reveals story behind 'fake' Twitter account: 'Hanggang ngayon hindi ko siya kilala'
After disowning her popular Twitter account, comedian Ethel Booba revealed that she has no clue about the identity of the person who had been tweeting in her name.
In a 30-minute video posted on her YouTube channel on Tuesday, Ethel said that she finally spoke up after the "fake" account's tweets started to become too political and "below the belt."
"Wala naman akong pakialam sa pulitika," the comedian said.
Ethel said that she first knew about the account back in 2016 when it started following her siblings and close friends.
At first, she noticed how the account would get content from her real Facebook account and crosspost it on Twitter. The account would also copy the way she talked and the way she joked but Ethel decided to let it be.
"Natuwa naman ako, binasa ko, okay naman. Hindi naman nakaka-harm sa ibang tao, puro quotes," she said. "Walang pulitika, walang siraan, walang checheboreche... maganda 'yung flow ng tweets."
She said that she rode along with it because she felt like she was getting a social media manager despite not knowing the identity of her handler.
"Hinayaan ko lang parang nakalibre pa ako. 'Yung iba nga nagbabayad ng admin diba," she said.
Ethel said that at some point, she started to feed the "fake" account what to tweet through her friends like Geri and her other siblings.
"Nagfe-feed ako sakanya ng tweets para nakakatawa. Nagfe-feed ako kay Geri na pa-tweet mo naman to," Ethel shared. "Wala nga akong contact sa kanya. Hanggang ngayon hindi ko siya kilala."
Because of the account's popular, funny and at times political tweets that always ended with her catchphrase "Charot," the account won Ethel a book deal in 2016.
The book, titled "Charotism: The wit and wisdom of Ethel Booba," is a "collection of her best, most memorable, and most popular tweets" that made her Twitter royalty.
However, Ethel noted that around 2019, the "fake" account's tweets started to get more political and targeted the current administration and some senators.
"May message pa nga ako na sabihan mo nga 'yan na wag na makialam sa pulitika wala naman ako kahilig hilig diyan," the comedian said.
Ethel said that the last straw for her was the tweet on paying taxes and giving your share amid the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
"'Yung tweet na nagbabayad ng tax, bakit mo pinagmumukha akong maramot," she said, shedding a few tears. "Hindi ako maramot na tao... nagtwe-tweet ka ng kung ano-ano eh kakapanganak ko nga lang... bakit mo ko sisiraan ng ganyan?"
Because of the recent tweets, Ethel said that she and even her newborn baby have been a target of bashers.
For the sake of transparency, the comedian shared that she is in fact a supporter of President Rodrigo Duterte and said that she even voted for him during the 2016 elections.
"Binoto ko nga 'yung tao tapos kokontrahin ko? Bakit mo hinaluan ng pulitiko? Katuwaan lang to," Ethel said.
"Dapat nga di tayo Duterte or dilawan, dapat nga ngayon magkaisa tayo. Dapat mag tulong tulong tayo," she said.
Addressing the "fake Ethel", she added, "Fake, tigilan mo na 'yan. Makakarma ka sa ginagawa mo."
After thanking her fans for all the support she received, she said that her Youtube channel, public Facebook and Instagram account remain entirely hers. --Kaela Malig/MGP, GMA News
