Fresh from her shift at the hospital, this nurse gives food to the homeless
Healthcare workers are among the essential personnel lauded as heroes amid the fight against the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
As frontliners, they sacrifice their own safety while caring for the sick and trying to save lives. But some of them are heroes twice over, like this nurse from Davao City.
In a Facebook post, Hafiz Marohombsar shared the kind deed of his co-worker, who does not wish to be named.
"I just got home from a long walk with my colleague after our 3pm-11pm shift," he said. "Since our free shuttle left early and it would take about an hour before the next trip, my workmate convinced me to walk instead as she did it already for several times alone."
The two of them are pediatric nurses at the Davao Doctors Hospital. According to Hafiz, his co-worker noticed the homeless people, many of them elderly, sleeping on the streets on her way home.

"She brought me to 7/11 first to buy some goods for the homeless people. Sabi niya sakin, ibibigay daw namin sa bawat taong madadaanan namin na natutulog sa kalsada," he shared.
"If magkulang daw, may 7/11 pa naman sa next street to buy additional food—which it really happened," he continued.
Hafiz said his co-worker was concerned about the homeless during the community quarantine.

"Pano daw sila sa panahong ito? Pano sila nakakakain? Does someone even care about them during this crisis?"
Hafiz said he offered to pay for half of the groceries but she refused.
"Okay na daw na kasama niya ako namigay. She was even thankful kasi andun ako para tulungan siya magkarga ng mga pagkain," he said.
"Humanity does really exist. A simple gesture can define it," Hafiz said. --MGP, GMA News
