That viral Filipino singer who impressed Sam Smith and Kelly Clarkson was actually on 'The Clash'
Over the weekend, Sam Smith and Kelly Clarkson were blown away by a Filipino student who went viral after he was caught singing Sam's "Too Good at Goodbyes" in a supermarket.
Steven was so, so good, his performance prompted Sam Smith to reshare the video and asked "Who is this kid?"
Kelly Clarkson reshared Sam's tweet and said "This kid is insane!"
Well, the insane kid's name is Carl Montecido aka Steven Clarcson. He hails from Bacolod and he was actually among the top 64 finalists of the second season of GMA's singing competition "The Clash."
Uh huh, right in our own backyard.
In his introduction video on "The Clash," Carl admitted to having ifs and buts growing up. He is visually impaired and didn't know how he can continue to sing.
Carl said people would take advantage of his talent by earning money from it without getting what was really supposed to be his.
"Ginamit din ito dahil kung saan saan ako pinapakanta ang kinakalabasan pa po ay di ko pa po nakukuha yung dapat para sa 'kin yung dapat pangtustos ko sa pamilya ko," he said.
Well, it looks like you won't worry about that anymore, Carl. With international celebrities recognizing you, your YouTube channel is sure to get a great number of views, and with it, hopefully, what is rightfully yours. — Jannielyn Ann Bigtas/LA, GMA News
