Father featured in viral GMA DigiDokyu gets own bank account
Tatay Ruben hasn't seen his 10 children in Bayawan City, Negros, for years. As Christmas draws near, he has but one wish: to see his children so that they can celebrate as a family again.
He used to be surrounded by his children in Negros until he decided to leave for Manila to look for a job. He used to be a construction worker, but as he grew older, projects stopped hiring him.
Tatay Ruben, who now repairs shoes and umbrellas, starts his day at dawn and gets back home to his humble shanty late at night.
His story was featured in a DigiDokyu by the GMA Public Affairs social media team.
After his story went viral, hundreds of people emailed to pledge help for him. The GMA team helped him open a bank account for all the donations.
He got his senior citizen's ID, his first valid government ID, from the Antipolo Provincial Capitol, before successfully opening a bank account.
