Australian media outlets take pride in Catriona’s win
Australian media outlets have taken pride in Miss Philippines Catriona Gray winning the Miss Universe title.
Catriona, after all, grew up in Australia.
A photo of Cat was printed in the front page of The Courier Mail, and underneath it were the words "Miss Universe Philippines."
But the amusing thing: The paper crossed out the name of our country and wrote in pseudo-handwriting "Queensland."
On the website of radio station Hit meanwhile, an article was published on Monday with the headline: An Australian Girl Just Won Miss Universe But She Wasn’t Miss Australia.”
"Catriona was born in Cairns, Queensland to a Scottish-born father and a Filipino mother. After attending school in Queensland, she moved to Manila to work as a model. So while she is most definitely Filipino, she's also Australian!" read a portion of the hit story.
Screenshots were shared on the Facebook page of PGAG with the caption, “Some Autralians want a piece of the Ms. Universe win, too? What do you think? To be fair, Catriona Gray grew up in Australia.”
It’s been shared over 6,000 times and has generated more than 1,000 comments and over 8,000 reactions, as of writing.
It's hard to blame the Aussies. It's an honor, really, to be represented by a woman as beautiful, intelligent, and as queenly as Cat.
Fortunately for us, Catriona chose to represent the Philippines — in the most beautiful manner, if we may add — and in the end, gave us our fourth Miss Universe title. — LA, GMA News
