Filipino singer Marcelito Pomoy appearance on 'The Ellen DeGeneres' show trends on YouTube
TV host Ellen DeGeneres couldn't help but be amazed by Filipino singer Marcelito Pomoy who can switch his voice for both the man and woman parts of a song during his guesting on the show.
Pomoy's feature on Ellen is the #1 trending on YouTube as of this writing with over 2 million views. The video was uploaded on October 31.
When Ellen asked about his story, Pomoy shared how he used to live on the streets, working as a pinboy to earn P50 a day to survive.
"First time ko kasing lumayas nung 7 years old then nagtrabahao ako ng pinboy then ang kita ko sa pinboy ay 50 pesos in US dollars $1 and then 'yon ang nagpa-survive sakin sa pangkain ko araw araw and then natulog na ako sa kalye," Pomoy narrated.
Pomoy joined a Filipino talent show in 2012 where he won grand champion. He said his motivation to join the talent show was his desire to see his family.
"Dumating sa punto nung nag-18 ako siguro 'eto na 'yong way na makita ko 'yong family ko," Pomoy said.
Ellen had nothing but praises for Pomoy's talent and his story. "This is beyond amazing," Ellen told Pomoy. "I saw this video of you and I'm so thrilled you're here."
Pomoy performed two Celine Dion songs for Ellen, "A Prayer" and "Beauty and the Beast."
In return, Ellen surprised Pomoy with a ticket to Celine's concert in Las Vegas and a backstage pass to meet his idol. Wow, right. What dreams may come indeed. — Jannielyn Ann Bigtas/LA, GMA News
