The Force prospers in this ‘Star War’ fan
A netizen just proved there is Force between the friendly rivalry of the space film series "Star Wars" and "Star Trek" with a hilarious photo she posted on Facebook.
Prior to watching the "Star Wars: The Last Jedi," Alarice Francisco snapped a photo of herself posing in front of the "Star Wars" movie poster clad in a Star Trek uniform while doing the Vulcan salute.
In the caption she used a sarcastic tone and wrote, "I'm so excited to watch The Star War. #TeamDarkVader #YesISaiditDarkVader#HijoAnongEpisodeNaIto"
In an email interview with GMA News Online, Alarice described herself as a "49% Star Wars fan, 49% Star Trek fan and 2% cuddly troll."
Alarice shared that it was just a funny thought she tweeted while scrolling through photos and videos of the premiere screening of the movie, which she failed to attend. And when her friends dared her to do it, well, she wasn't one to back down.
"I saw photos and videos of the premiere screening which I sadly wasn't able to go to. There were fans in costumes and it looked like so much fun. Then I wondered, what if someone wore a Trekkie outfit there. I tweeted my thoughts and my friends dared me to do it. One of them said 'Naghahanap ka talaga ng away no, or should I say a war...a Star War,'" she told GMA News Online.
Her post on Facebook instantly went viral, garnering over 10,000 likes, 11,442 shares, a few marriage proposals and free snacks, as of this writing.
"I've gotten a lot of screenshots and messages as heads up. There were marriage proposals as well, so that's quite funny. The snack brand in the photo even offered me freebies if they can share my photo," she said.
Alarice was surprised with the reactions of netizens to her post, saying they are "all really witty, so you can tell the type of fan base the two franchises have."
While a few may not speak the language of sarcasm that Alarice speaks, some strangers who find her joke amusing, have taken it upon themselves to explain and defend her joke from those who don't get it.
"There's like a small percentage that's negative and didn't get the joke but I was surprised a lot of people would go out of their way to explain it to them and even defend me, so I'm thankful for that."
Her intention with the post is to "make people laugh" and have an "exchange of wits" with fellow fans.
"I thought the joke was pretty clever. If you're proud of something like, let's say creating a painting or a new recipe, there's nothing bad about sharing it, as long as it's harmless. You know what Yoda says, “May the prosper be ever in our favor”," she said.
