Award-winning director helms new video about family and success

A heartwarming, Filipino-made video has been taking the Internet by storm with its simple yet poignant tale about family and success. And the man behind it is none other than award-winning director and cinematographer, Dan Villegas.

Villegas, whose impressive portfolio includes Cinemalaya entry Mayohan, and blockbuster hits like The Breakup Playlist, English Only, Please, Bride for Rent and She’s the One, says that he was eager to work on the video.

“The first time I heard the concept for Grandma’s Little Angel, I was excited to shoot it. Everyone has a Lola, or someone they love, so this is highly relatable,” he said. “I was close to my own Lolo, so I wanted to make this for him.”

Grandma’s Little Angel unveils the story of young woman named Kassie and her grandmother Linda who used to run her own local chocolate shop in Lipa, Batangas. As a child, Kassie developed a love for chocolate-making, as well as a passion for pursuing her dreams, thanks to her ever-supportive and ever-loving grandmother. Eventually, Lola Linda’s business had to close down. But that did not prevent Kassie from persevering to bring her dreams to life, giving Lola Linda the sweetest surprise ever.

Villegas shared, “I want the viewers to feel lucky that there are people who love them, and that they should tell their loved ones how appreciated and cherished they are.”

Grandma’s Little Angel has touched the hearts of netizens because of its simple yet universal message: success is best shared with the people who inspired it. Grab some tissues and watch the video here.
