Real-life Nyan Cat dies
The Internet world is mourning the death of Marty, the real-life cat that inspired the popular eight-bit rainbow meme, Nyan Cat.
Marty, nearly three years old, died on Thursday due to Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP), a fatal incurable disease, tech site Mashable reported.
Nyan Cat creator Chris Torres tweeted a brief eulogy for his beloved cat:
I will really miss Marty. He was seriously just the coolest cat ever. I just couldn’t save him twitter.com/PRguitarman/st…

He said Marty, named after the lead character in the "Back to the Future" films, had "heavily influenced a lot of my comics and the creation of Nyan Cat."
But last week, he said Marty started behaving strange and was diagnosed with Feline Infectious Peritonitis:

"I was seriously hoping to nurse him back to health but FIP is pretty much a death sentence to most cats. There is no known cure," Torres said.
Mashable said Torres adopted Marty in 2010 along with another cat, Buster, which also died of FIP.
It added Nyan Cat celebrated its first birthday in April, outlasting most Internet memes.
"The 8-bit rainbow Pop Tart cat continues to entertain the masses with its adorably infectious song — and will no doubt continue to be played, in Marty’s honor, for a long time to come," it said.
