VegFest Pilipinas to celebrate 8th year with 2-day event
This is not a drill, this is a call for Climate Action!
VegFest Pilipinas celebrates its 8th year this 2023. The event will be held on November 18 & 19, starting from 9 a.m. until 10pm, at The Spine, Blue Bay Walk. VegFest Pilipinas proudly holds the title as the biggest and longest running vegan festival in the whole of Asia organized by Vegans Of Manila and supported by Maya, StellaEats, UnMeat, Maxicare, Veega and Sekaya.
This year, our theme is “Heal the world with Compassion and Climate Action”
The Philippines is no stranger to the Climate Crisis—having always ranked as part of the top five most vulnerable to climate change according to the Global Climate Risk Index. We already racked up trillions of pesos worth of damage since 2010. Typhoon Egay is one of the climate catastrophes to hit us just recently; and thousands of families and several towns suffered from the ravage.
The top contributor to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, deforestation, and biodiversity loss is the animal agriculture industry. The sector’s emission is more than that of planes, trains, ships, buses, cars, and all manner of vehicles combined. The livestock sector alone is said to be the largest source of water pollution due to animal wastes, fertilizers, and pesticides. This contributes to health problems, and the emergence of antibiotic resistance.
To show our commitment to the planet, we are greening our event through the following efforts: closing the loop thru segregation of trash and our eco partners’ collection of different types of waste (for composting and upcycling); signing in our venue to the Philippine GEOP (Green Energy Option Program); requesting attendees to bring their own utensils, cups, and plates/containers; partnering with a local business producing compostable utensils, cups, containers, and bags to supply merchants’ needs; and harvesting signatures for the Plant Based Treaty.
The event will feature a 2-day concert for climate entitled TUNOG HAYOP featuring the vegan Meds Marfil of Truefaith and other promising artists and bands who is sharing their talent to voice out their support on combating climate crisis. We will also have some docufilms showing, cooking competitions and family fun activities.
As always, 100% of the profits from ticket sales and sponsorship shall go to the following beneficiaries:The Mobility Awards, P.A.R.T (Philippine Animal Rescue Team), and SIFCARE Foundation’s Go Palakas Program.
