Philippine Historical Association Annual Conference 2022 call for papers
The Philippine Historical Association (PHA) invites everyone to submit research papers for the 2022 Annual Conference with the theme Dalita at Pag-Asa, 1872, Historical Controversies, National Oblations, and Enduring Filipinism.
The conference aims to discuss beyond the context of the events of 1872 to interrogate causes of events, its effects, and legacies on Filipinism or Philippine Nationalism. Heroism and martyrdom, which are sacred and sentimental to the idea of the nation, are questioned, criticized, and renewed. Controversies and martyrdoms have contributed both to Filipino nationalism. The conference coincides with the 150th year of the martyrdom of the priests Mariano Gomes, Jose Burgos and Jacinto Zamora.
Individual and panel proposals shall range from but not limited to the following sub-themes:
• Philippine Heroes and Martyrs (National and Local)
• Discourses on Heroism and Martyrdom
• Nationalist Biographies and History
• Politics and Governance in 19th century Philippines
• Military history and nationalism
• History of Crime and Punishment in the Philippines
• Church/ Ecclesiastical History (e.g. regular and secular clergy)
• Reformistas, Ilustrados, Propagandistas
• Interrogating National Narratives
• Social movements
• Filipino nationhood
• Philippine Nationalism and Citizenship
• Women and Nationalism
• Public History, Historical Education, and Historical Distortion
• Interpreting National Heritage and Monuments
