GMA Kapuso Foundation donates Zamboanga City multipurpose hall
The GMA Kapuso Foundation (GMAKF) turned over a multipurpose building with two classrooms to facilitate the education of students in Cabatangan, Zamboanga City.
According to a “24 Oras” report on Monday, students in the area used to borrow the barracks of the Philippine Army’s 54th Engineer Brigade due to a classroom shortage.
The barracks were used as classrooms for students in daycare, the alternative learning system, and madrasah.
“Natutunan po nila doon ang pagbasa ng Quran, isa pong worship para sa amin, kaya po kailangan ng aming mga kabataan to learn how to read and write Arabic,” Imam Brigade chaplain Captain Abdulahaq Mohammad said.
GMAKF teamed up with the 54th Engineer Brigade and several other partners in September for the project.
“Dahil may COVID na at hindi natin sure kung kailan babalik ang face-to-face classes so minabuti namin na apart from pre-school, puwede ring maging Madrasah ‘yung place,” GMAKF Executive Vice President and Chief Operations Officer Rikki Escudero-Catibog said.
The new building is typhoon and earthquake resistant and also has blackboards, fans, a water dispenser, as well as restrooms. — Julia Mari Ornedo/DVM, GMA News
