Carlos P. Romulo Collection finds new home in La Salle
The Carlos P. Romulo Collection was turned over by the Romulo family to De La Salle University. To formalize this, a deed of donation was signed last September 6, at the Romulo, Mabanta, Buenaventura, and De Los Angeles Law Firm in Makati.
A formal launch event for the collection will be held during the 75th commemoration of the Leyte Landing in October 2019.
The Carlos P. Romulo Collection, which will be housed in the University’s Learning Commons, showcases valuable books and memorabilia depicting one of the country’s most highly regarded statesmen's life as a teacher, soldier and diplomat.
“We are grateful to have found a home within De La Salle University, a place where students can go to feel connected to their past and to learn from those, like Carlos P. Romulo, who so tirelessly pursued independence, the promotion and protection of human rights, and fought for a democratic way of life,” shared the late statesman’s son and Romulo Law Firm Chairman Atty. Ricardo J. Romulo.
DLSU President Br. Raymundo Suplido FSC offered a few words of gratitude about the donation.
“I would like to express to the Romulo Family, on behalf of the University, our deep appreciation for your significant donation. Just a short time ago, we were talking about the many significant accomplishments your father achieved over the course of his lifetime. By this donation what you are really entrusting to De La Salle University is a treasure and legacy: his writings, his speeches, his thoughts his dreams and his experiences.”
Carlos P. Romulo had a long and illustrious career in Philippine politics. Starting out as a newspaper editor at the age of 20, he grew to become one of the most influential Filipinos of his time.
He co-founded the Boy Scouts of the Philippines, became the first non-American to win the Pulitzer Prize, and the first Asian President of the United Nations General Assembly.
