‘Indak- Indak’ Live Coverage highlights Kapuso sa Kadayawan


Imagine being taken back in time through a cultural dance showdown in the streets of Davao where dancers are dressed in  traditional indigenous attire representing  Davao's tribes, namely the Ata, Matigsalog, Ovu-Manuvo, Klata-Djangan, Tagabawa, Tausug, Maguindanao, Maranao, Kalagan, Sama and Iranun. Though diverse in cultural practices, they are one in highlighting age-old traditions and beliefs that form part of the heart of Davao City's colorful history.
 
"Indak-indak" will make you want to dance and join the street dancers in rhythm with the yearly tradition of Kadayawan, tagged as the king of all festivals, where old and new traditions converge. 
 
Kadayawan Festivital is meant for thanksgiving festivities for a bountiful harvest of different fruits, special Durian, known as the king of all fruits. The term “Kadayawan” is derived from the Mandaya word “ madayaw”, a warm and friendly greeting denoting something that is valuable, superior, beautiful, good or profitable. The highlights of this year’s celebration are “Indak-Indak sa Kadalanan (street dancing competition), Hiyas Ng Kadayawan, Sayaw Mindanao, Davao River Festival,Tunog Mindanao and Davao Tribal Games.
 
Among the most awaited activities in the Kadayawan calendar is the coronation of the “Hiyas ng Kadayawan”. Hiyas sa Kadayawan is the search for a young lass who  will embody not only the ideals of the tribe where she belongs, but also be a role model for the youth of Davao City. Ten young women from the tribes of Davao compete in their indigenous garbs, cultural performance, in an interview to vie for the title. 
 
GMA News and Public Affairs Southern Mindanao joins the celebration in a live coverage on August 16 for Indak-Indak sa Kadalanan with Tek Ocampo and Atty. Sara "Inday" Duterte-Carpio, Marlon Palma Gil and Sheillah Vergara-Rubio.  
 
Take part in the Indak Indak experience through GMA Network’s live coverage  which, for the first time, will utilize drone equipment to capture a good bird’s eye (aerial) view of the colors and energy of the streets.
