Town&Country aims spotlight on the dynamic duo Sonny and Tootsy Angara

Here is an anecdote from Town&Country Editor in Chief Yvette Fernandez about Senator Sonny Angara. “When I first met Sonny two years ago, I had no idea who he was, and he came across as very warm and real. He mentioned he was a regular reader, and that he had enjoyed our first 50 Under 50 List,” Fernandez shares. A common friend asked Sonny if he was on the list to which he quipped, “No, I’m not in that league at all.”

Fast forward to October 2013 where the young freshman senator is not only part of the 50 Under 50 Power List of Town&Country but he also graces the cover of the magazine alongside his wife Tootsy Angara.

“It’s in my personal life that I feel I’m most successful. There’s no way I could’ve done better in my choice of partner. I don’t think I could’ve done better with my kids,” says Sonny referring to Tootsy. The young couple opens up to Town&Country and shares how they met, fell in love, got married and faced the world of politics together.

In Congress, Sonny filed the most number of important bills enacted into law which earned him the top spot in the list of “prolific and hardworking members of the House of Representatives”. He is also known for his partiality towards education. Now that he is in the Senate, he hopes to restore a work-life balance in his family. “We’re so busy when we’re in Manila, so we go on trips to bond with our kids,” adds Sonny.

At 41, Sonny is among the movers and shakers in our society who are under the age of 50. He is one of the 50 individuals cited in Town&Country’s October issue for their success in the fields of business, real estate, media, philanthropy, government, and education, to name a few.

The list also includes Philippine Star president and CEO Miguel Belmonte, Xavier School president Fr. Aristotle Dy, SJ, ICTSI vice president for operations Christian Gonzalez, Stores Specialists executive vice president Anton Huang, boxing champ and congressman Manny Pacquiao, Global Restaurant Concepts CEO Archie Rodriguez, Philippine Daily Inquirer president and CEO Sandy Romualdez, L’Oreal Philippines managing director Rowel Vijandre, and Manila Bulletin executive vice president Emilio Yap III.
